About IIT JEE
About IITs: Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are the technical institutes in India that provide various undergraduate (B. Tech) and post graduate (M. Tech) courses related to engineering and technology. There are currently 23 IITs in India and all of these institutes are mentioned as ‘institutes of national importance’ according to the ‘institutes of technology’ act of 1961. Some of the IITs also provide Phd and Doctorate programs as well as MBA and other programs. The IITs have become a brand in India over the past few decades because of the attractive job and future prospects for the students who study at IITs. Moreover, the IITs have been ranked among the top colleges of India and Asia consistently over the past few decades due to high quality of Education, Infrastructure, Exposure to students, Facilities, Research, Funding, Placements and other factors. IITs are the only institutes that feature in top 200 universities/institutes of the World. For above mentioned reasons IITs are considered as the best colleges of India among all fields of education and they are considered as the hot choice of every youth and every parent of India for higher Education.
Entrance Exam: The entrance to the undergraduate (Bachelor of Technology) courses and the integrated Master of Technology in the IITs is made through the IIT – JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). IIT JEE is conducted each year by one of the IITs using the round robin rotation pattern. The Exam is considered to be one of the toughest exams of India as well as of the World because the admission rate is very low for this exam and the difficulty level of the questions asked is very high. The admission rate in 2011 was less than 1 student in 50 according to the data where around 485,000 candidates appeared for only 9,618 seats. This admission rate has been consistent over the past few years.
Current Pattern of IIT JEE Exam: Since 2013, the IIT JEE has been renamed as JEE Advanced. Currently around Top 2.4 lakh students in the rank list of JEE Main exam are selected to appear in JEE Advanced Exam. The JEE Advanced exam is conducted only in online mode in May every year. There are two objective type tests in JEE Advanced exam each comprising questions from Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics with equal weightage given to each subject.
Current Pattern of Admission into IITs: Since 2013, for admission into the undergraduate degrees at IITs, the students need to qualify the JEE Advanced exam and also need to satisfy the condition that - they must come among the top 20 percent students (category wise) in their 12th class examination of their respective Board OR they must score 75% or more aggregate marks in class 12.
